Barış Alpaslan, Ankara Sosyal Bilimler Üniversitesi Ekonomi Bölümü'nde Profesör olarak görev yapmaktadır. Manchester Üniversitesi'nde 2011 yılında "distinction" derecesi ile Ekonomi alanında Yüksek Lisans, 2014 yılında da A(i) derecesi ile Doktora öğrenimini tamamlamıştır. Bunların yanı sıra, Australian National University Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis (CAMA), University of Sheffield bünyesindeki Institute for Global Sustainable Development (IGSD) ve Mısır'daki Economic Research Forum (ERF) ile mensubiyetleri (affiliation) bulunmaktadır. Dr. Alpaslan aynı zamanda UNESCO Türkiye Milli Komisyonu bünyesinde bulunan "Sürdürülebilir Kalkınma 2030 Hedefleri İhtisas Komitesi" Başkan Vekili ve Dünya Bankası, Uluslararası Göç Politikaları Geliştirme Merkezi ile Afrika Kalkınma Bankası'nda danışman olarak görev yapmıştır. Dr. Alpaslan bir süre önce Avrupa Konseyi Eğitimde Etik, Şeffaflık ve Dürüstlük Platformu'na Türkiye'yi temsilen delege olarak seçilmiştir.
